#BehindtheSeams
Is GOTS just
another label?
Come #behindtheseams to find out how we’re so much more!
We’re tackling the textile industry’s biggest challenges
See just a few…
Challenge 1
Complex Production
On average, making a single piece
of clothing involves 30-50 distinct
production steps.
The GOTS solution
For a finished product to carry the GOTS label, the applicable processing, manufacturing and trading stages in the certified supply chain must meet GOTS environmental and social criteria.
Challenge 2
Toxic Chemicals
Studies show that up to 1 in 3 textiles tested worldwide contain hazardous substances that can come in contact with your skin - without any warning label.

The GOTS solution
GOTS requires chemical inputs used in certified textile processing to meet defined criteria. The Standard prohibits or restricts specified substances, including PFAS, certain flame retardants and dyes that do not meet its requirements.
Challenge 3
Water Pollution
Textile dyeing and finishing processes contribute to about 20% of global industrial water pollution, releasing toxic chemicals into water bodies.

The GOTS solution
GOTS sets requirements for chemical inputs and requires certified wet-processing facilities to operate wastewater treatment systems that meet the applicable GOTS criteria.
It's all laid out on the label
ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA
Chemical inputs and residue limits are subject to defined GOTS requirements.
SOCIAL CRITERIA
GOTS social criteria include prohibitions on child labour and forced labour and requirements relating to working conditions and non-discrimination.
